Vehicle Safety Check List
- Newer vehicles may have better safety features like air bags, antilock brakes and
daytime running lights.
- Small cars usually offer less protection. In fact, the Insurance Institute for Highway
Safety advises teens not to drive small vehicles.
- High-performance sports cars may increase the likelihood of being in a speed-related
crash.
- Vehicles that allow the driver to reach the pedals without being close to the steering
wheel or air bag may reduce the risk of injury.
- Crash-test performance information is available on two Web sites. Check out the
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at www.nhtsa.dot.gov or the Insurance
Institute for Highway Safety at www.highwaysafety.org.
